Our Top Styling Reference Guide to use when decorating your Home Office

Who would have thought that last year this time we would all be preparing for a new way of professional life? Many of us have been working from home for months now and so many Fortune 500 companies have given the green light for their thousands of employees to choose their desired location to live. What an evolution! I personally love that work no longer has to dictate where we live enabling us to freely spread our wings and flock to sunny destinations that might be even be more cost effective to live. The flip side to corporate jobs is a new influx of small businesses. History shows that many valuable businesses are born in times of struggle, so go on! Get your groove on :)

Here is our concise list on how to create a peaceful office and work experience. Whether you have a dedicated room or simply want to carve out a nook these items can help you channel your thoughts and energy into a valuable, fulfilled day. 1. Declutter

Studies have proven we are less inclined to waste time in a de-cluttered space and also less stressed. Why is that? Our mess can result in trying to focus on too many things at once, therefore heightening stress levels. Similar to how a clean home makes people feel better, a tidy working environment can lead to a happier you! Try to get as many items as possible off the floor and tucked away neatly. You can use shelving or storage baskets to help achieve this.

2. Define your room’s purpose

What is the space going to be used for… Will it just be a home office or will it also serve as a family den or playroom for your children? Once you establish what you need the room to do for you, then you’ll have a clearer vision of what should be on your checklist. Write down what you’ll need to look for so you can stay on target as you shop. Keep your shopping list handy and cross items off as you go.

3. Pick a decor style

Your home office should be in line with the rest of the style of your home unless you are going to be remodeling and changing the look. This space however can feel unique in comparison. For example, maybe you have white cabinets in the kitchen but for your office prefer a more moody feel. We had ivory built ins in an extra bedroom in our home which we removed some of the extra shelving and ornate brackets and then painted a darker color and added brass handles. Color is also extremely personal so take notice of what colors make you feel calm and happy :)

4. Wall Art

Feeling inspired can supercharge your brain. I love downloading art from Etsy vendors and purchasing my own frames. It allows me to update art seasonally or as I like to see some change. Minted.com brings artists from all over the world together and offers a wide variety of drawings, painting prints and they even frame it for you! Right now we’re leaning into lots nature + travel art to help us feel grounded and keep our creative spirits feeling boundless.

5. Living Things

Did you know living plants increase productivity? Studies show that 70% greater attentiveness happens when you introduce plants into your environment. Schools have even shown higher attendance when plants are present in a classroom, love this! Start small by adding an indoor plant to a basket. They are easy to care for and don’t need to be replanted. Just stick the planter directly into a basket - easy peasy!

6. Cozy Accessories

Bring in a cozy blanket or pillow to make your desk space a place you want to linger with a warm cup of tea. These sheepskin rugs are perfect to warm up your seat while sitting at your desk. Style them over your office chair or as a cozy rug with added texture!

7. Make it Personal

We talk about this a lot. I mean this really is the foundation of any good design and feeling authentic in your own space, no matter the trends. Being unique encourages personal growth and well being and allows our minds to expand while feeling free and true to your own self. Bringing in pieces from where you are from or places you’ve traveled can feel inspiring and grounding. We spoke about the owner of The Artesenal and her love for Baja on the video.
