8 Beautiful and tranquil ways to bring nature into your home throughout the year.

If you’ve been following along with us for a while, you know that I place a high value on being outdoors in nature. Being from a small town in Georgia meant that collecting Fall leaves in a mountainous pile and jumping into them (sorry, Dad) was a favorite past-time outdoors. Since Summer heat was brutal, Fall was where it was at and we made the most of leaf collecting and exploring local parks and rivers as often as we could.

Regionally, we all have our advantages and disadvantages with the seasons but regardless of where you are situated in the world, we’ve got some helpful tips to allow you to feel connected to nature all year long. We’re sharing our top 8 list on how you can nurture that outdoor spirit regardless of the season.

  1. Color - Take your favorite outdoor colors and bring them inside. We grow a veggie garden all year round and the kale continues to thrive so we like to bring in trimmings from those veggies and any other vibrant greens we can find. Sometimes this shows up in cookware, a throw blanket or pillow or a vase.

  2. Light - Open up those shades especially on sunny days and let the daylight in. This will not only do wonders for your mood but also make you feel like you are closer to the outdoors.

  3. Herbs, - Pick a couple of easy to grown herbs for your kitchen window. Not only is it a perfect compliment to warm winter bowls and soups but it will provide greenery and fresh oxygen.

  4. Plants - We like to keep a couple of low maintenance living plants in areas of our homes that don’t receive a lot of light. Some plants are very happy with low light and it creates indoor nature. Bloomscape has some great options.

  5. Branches - Hands down my current favorite way to incorporate nature indoors. We trim from our Kale, Rosemary, eucalyptus, olives and anything that will give us a good 18” of length when placed in a vase.

  6. Natural fibers - Jute rugs, cotton hand towels and sisal accents are three terrific materials which create a natural feel in your home. Of course, we always prefer these to man-made materials, that’s a major focus on our design aesthetic.

  7. Wood - Incorporating wood accents along with furnishings provides an earthy and rooted feel to your home. We recommend sticking to one or two wood stains to keep it cohesive.

  8. Books - There are so many great books that incorporate nature. Some of our favorites balance design along with the outdoors. They are Hide and Seek, Pacific Natural. and Inspired by Nature. We have all of these available in our shop but have also included the amazon links for you here.

We hope you enjoy bringing these elements into your home in the New Year!

Cheers,

Terra
